Course Description
Mental health is just as important as physical health. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. This course is aimed at managers or supervisors responsible for staff and/or volunteers in your organisation. Learners will gain a detailed understanding of mental health issues affecting workplaces; be able to help build a positive mental health culture and to create a mental health action plan for your organisation.

- Defining mental health and understanding the stigma around mental health
- Factors that impact mental health
- The role of first aider for mental health
- Advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
- When to contact the emergency services in respect of first aid for mental health
- Identify signs of stress and be able to state how stress can be managed
- Identify signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm, PTSD, Personality disorders, bipolar, schizophrenia
- The potential effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person’s mental health
- Demonstrate the application of the first aid action plan for mental health
- Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
- Available therapies and support provided by healthcare professionals in mental health
